The Mechanics were the dominant team in the early history of the Notts League. Records show them as the champions for the first 8 years between 1927 and 1935. They won the championship a further 13 times. There was no competition in the war years, but they were dominant in the 1950's and early 1960s. They last won the title in 1966. Who were they? What happened to the club? Are any ex-Mechanics still actively playing?

Grenville Wollerton reports he played R.J.Lock on 19.12.79 in a Mechanics v. Grantham match. He points out that J.C. Calvert, who played for Mechanics, is still competing. Indeed he is, appearing last season in 2 Seniors events at the British Championship and also at Hastings. As Mr Calvert still identifies Mechanics as his Club, the Nottingham Mechanics club still exists on the ECF Grading Database, showing one club member.
