Neil Graham uncorked a theoretical novelty on the world of chess last night in his game against Grantham's Grenville Wollerton. Neil was Black and the game opened 1 e4 e5 2 Bc4 Nf6 3 Nc3 Nxe4 4 Bxf7 !? Kxf7 5 Nxe4. It seems that theoretically this is o.k. for Black, although I'd certainly prefer in this position to have the White pieces. Black will have to tread very carefully and his only sensible follow- up appears to be 5 ... d5. Neil played a new move in this position 5 ...Qh4. Study this yourself to see if this a move based on meticulous analysis and preparation or an old-fashioned rush of blood to the head. I don't know if this has been played before. I'm pretty confident that Neil for one is unlikely to play this move ever again and may agree with my verdict of this as a Pig's Ear of an opening. |
