West Notts 1 v Ashfield 2    4.4.16

On our last match of the season , we got a good hiding from West Notts, who showed how strong they can be. Bob lost a pawn to Tony Clare whose pieces then seized control of the board. Alan suffered very heavy material losses to Adi Munshi, and Jerry was defenceless against David Levens' succession of threats. Draws however from Glenn against Jonah Willow and myself against Taylor Pearson gave us cause for celebration. A 4-1 defeat was all we needed to be safe from relegation. I was basking in the satisfaction that my calm, cool, collected play helped us reach our target. I've come down to earth tonight . A quick check with Fritz shows my last 2 moves were blunders which offered Taylor a winning coup, which thankfully he missed.

Result  West Notts 4-1 Ashfield   Against the odds we have stayed up and the club should again have two teams in Division 1 next year, as will Gambit and, possibly, Grantham
