Ash 1 v Ash 2

06/01/16  Both teams called on reserves, and played out their second draw of the season. I scored an early draw against Steve Burke. Ray Sayer put the seconds in front before Neil equalised. All square with 2 to play, and the second team kept up the dogged, defensive play we've shown all season. "Iles ne passeront pas." was our watch-word as David Woodhouse held out against Steve Bak and Alan Robinson against Derek Jarvis. Derek was pressing a pawn up in a Bishop ending. He probed and pushed hard until it gradually dawned on players and spectators that there was no way to make progress, and Alan could hold relatively easily. Result 2.5- 2.5
With a points haul of 4 from 7 games, Ashfield 2 have far exceeded expectations this season, although we're fully prepared to come down to earth with a bump at Grantham next week. Ashfield 1 continue in mid-table comfort.
