21/10/15 Ashfield 3 v Mansfield 2

Patience and pressure prevailed. Mansfield defaulted a board. Ashfield pressed on Boards 2-4. Stan continued his fine form. He strategically took the right big decisions e.g. trading off his Bishop for a strong central Knight.A quick pawn recapture created a further weak point and after another careless move his opponent's position was breached. Steve Bak had looked likely to claim the first win. His first attack was beaten off, but he patiently and decisively opened up attacking lines to his opponent's roving King. With the match in the bag, David agreed a draw. He'd also pressed hard, retained some edge but no time to exploit this. In a tight top board game Alan Robinson and George Wagenbach each probed patiently for the upper hand. Approaching the endgame Alan was outmanouvered and George won a piece, The Master notched a consolation win for Mansfield.      Result  3-2
