Ash 1 v West Bridgford 1  2.11.16

Our first team scored their first win of the season, in a far from convincing performance. West Bridgford drew encouragement from their draws on board 4 and 5, although Neil on Board 4 was relieved to emerge from his game against Ross Murphy with the half. Our first team moved ahead when Derek quickly converted his positional edge, aided by a slip from his opponent. WB quickly equalised when, after a good game by both players, Steve overlooked a winning tactic by Robert Richmond. All down to the last game of Andy Toothill, who was pressing with little time left. Andy broke through but in the time scramble put his Queen down on a square it could be taken by a pawn. He immediately realised his mistake, and his Queen sat there for a few seconds. His opponent did not move instantly but ,concentrating on the other half of the board, missed the Queen was en prise, moved elsewhere, allowing Andy time to mop up the win.

West Bridgford seemed unlucky to lose on the night, albeit a team makes its own luck..

Result A1 v WB 1   3-2
