Ashfield 1 v Gambit 2

This game was notable as the debut game for our club of Bao Nghia Dong ( known as Louie) , a Nottingham-based student from Vietnam, whose ECF grade is 210. Our new recruit proved the difference between two very evenly matched teams. Louie had a fairly quick win on Board 1 setting his opponent Onos too many defensive problems to combat. All the other games were tight affairs. Steve and Glenn drew with Graeme Jennings and John Tassi. Mike Naylor got the upper hand against Derek Jarvis, winning the exchange and converting the win, but Andrew Toothill clinched the match for Ashfield, converting his endgame advantage against opposing captain, Drag Sudar.
Hats off to Neil Graham, who sat out this game, for his opportunist recruitment of Louie and donning his chauffeur's cap to transport him on the night.

Result         Ashfield 1 v Gambit 2       3-2     Our first team were in a relegation spot at Christmas, with just 3 points from 7 games. 3 wins from 3 games since then has moved them up into the top half of the table. Another point should be enough to ensure the team stays up, although tough fixtures lie ahead.)
