The visitors had a strong line-up on the top 3 boards, but a fine attacking win by Steve Bak on Board 2 , backed up by 4 draws clinched a win for the third team in their opening League fixture. A very good all-round team performance. This was the first win by an Ashfield team against a side from Grantham for many a year*

( *The last victory I can recall, and certainly the sweetest, was 24.10.07, Grantham 1's last season in Division 2. They were promoted as champions but Ashfield 2 beat them 3.5 - 1.5 . Glenn beat Paul Cumbers, Neil beat Nigel Birtwistle and Stan beat Nick Payne, Apologies to  Grantham for reminding you of this, but we've had a lot of pastings since then.)
