Ashfield 1 v Gambit 1 (17 January 2018)
1 Molyneux J (196) 0.5 v 0.5 Barnes M (207)
2 Halfpenny G (176) 0 v 1 Mercs P (178)
3 Burke S (167) 0.5 v 0.5 Swain J (177)
4 Levens D (155) 0 v 1 Jires J (180E)
5 Herrington J

It was a close contest on the top 3 boards. The game between Glenn and Pete caught my eye. Optically Glenn's position looked good, but Peter built up a vicious King-side attack which cracked through Glenn's defences.

The visitors have the solid spine in their team of Mike, Pete and John, now backed up the cutting edge of their young blades on Boards 4 and 5. Tom Adams opened up lines and exposed Jerry's King in the centre, the 2 Bishops scything through his position. David's opponent was never in danger in converting his 2 pawns advantage.
