Ash 2 v Uni 1  12.12.18

On the night Theresa May won a Party vote of confidence in her leadership. our attempt to take over the leadership of Division 2 was brushed aside. Despite defaulting a board, because of their top player's travel difficulties, University won in a canter. They were simply too good for us on the top boards.
Neil game was very sharp and double-edged. My game was the last to finish in a long endgame , with my opponent playing on the increment. He was 2 pawns up in a Queen and pawns ending. My drawing hopes were based on perpetual check. I won his dangerous passed pawn, before my checks ran out. My opponent seems a very useful Blitz player, with an uncommonly strong will to win.

1 A Webster    160   0-1  M Modejrwski  169E
2  J Herrington  157   0-1  C Grainger   161
3 P Morgan       147   0-1  N Baltov      126E
4 N Graham       148   draw M Naybour 121
5 R Taylor          139   1-0  default

Resuilt 1.5 - 3.5 ( At the midpoint of the season this confirms us a mid-tabe team, with 3 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw.. It seems good for chess in Nottinghamshire to have a strong University team, who now appear clear promotion favourites.)
